Rock Asylum with ZO2 & Sweet Cyanide Plus Kids’ Benefit

We’ll be at Canal Room (285 West Broadway) on Wed, 1/19 @ 7:30 PM. The show is ages 18+. But we’re doing something special for this show to kick off the new year. We figure what better way to give back than by raising money to support music and arts for local kids!

That’s right if you purchase an advance ticket to the show directly from us, in addition to our show, you’ll also be sponsoring one kindergarten student from PS 52 in Brooklyn to attend a concert put on by the children’s music group the Z Brothers (Paulie & David from the band ZO2 and hit comedy show ZRock). Also, you’ll get a personal “Thank You” card from the student you sponsored when you pick up your ticket at will-call the day of our show. There are 100 kindergarteners in PS 52 and once 100 presale tix are sold, the concert will be opened up to the first graders.

So get to it! The goal is to sell at least 100 tickets so please help by purchasing your advance ticket now and sponsor a student!

Even if you can’t make the show and you want to help out you can still buy a ticket and let us know that you wish to contribute but can’t attend.

Get your advance tix here for $10 (they’ll be $15 the day of).

Along with being a good cause this will be a fun night as we will be sharing the stage with ZO2 and Sweet Cyanide…

The Ten Best Hard Rock Songs & Our Halloween Show

In This Issue

  1. Annual Halloween Show
  2. The End Of Pay What You Want
  3. The Ten Best Hard Rock Songs According to Diablo Royale

All Hallows Eve At The Best Place In the World For It!

We are heading to Six Flags’ Fright Fest this Sat night for our annual Halloween show.  The stage is essentially a mulit-level castle complete with torches.  Technically, it’s only 2 levels, but Gerard has a bit of a wild streak, and likes walking on the wobbly roof. If roller coasters and the chance of near death experiences are not enough, we will be playing with Charetta and The August Infinity, two bands we’ve done a lot of good work with recently.

7:00 PM, Sat, 10/30
Six Flags Frightfest
1 Six Flags Boulevard
Jackson, NJ 08527

Pay What You Want Until Nov 15

Alright, this has worked very well, but all good things must come to an end.  If you’d like to grab "Greedy Dogs" for any price you’d like, please head to our store and grab it now.  We will be ending it in 2 weeks.

The Top 10 Hard Rock Songs According to Diablo Royale
There’s a lot of these lists floating around, and we never really agree with them.  The first major difference is that Nirvana will not be making an appearance on our list. Second, we will stay away from a song just because it was the biggest by the artist.  For example, no Enter Sandman here. Without further ado:

10. Walk This Way – Aerosmith
Here’s a song with 100% pure cocksure swagger.  If the catchy chorus isn’t enough, this song single-handedly spawned countless collaborations between rock and rap artists. While we might be better off without some of them (Puff Daddy doing Kashmir?), the Run DMC/Aerosmith duo is classic.

9. Crackerman – Stone Temple Pilots
This song is what this band was all about.  No frills, kick ass rock.  From the first note it doesn’t stop.  And the hook is so memorable, by the end of the first listen you’ll be screaming "Get Away, gotta get away."

8. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap – AC/DC
You’ve heard Back In Black and Hells Bells about 3,000 times or so depending on how many bars you’ve been in.  But Dirty Deeds is a straight ahead rock gem.  The song made it onto The Simpsons when the very religious Ned Flanders sang it as "Kindly Deeds Done For Free."  Probably not what Bon Scott had in mind but it speaks to the songs’ reach.

7. Crazy Train  - Ozzy Osbourne
Yes, we are breaking our first rule here, but man, is this song awesome.  It is one of the most badass guitar riffs ever written, the verse drives and you want to scream with Ozzy in every chorus.  And, of course, the picture perfect guitar solo by Randy Rhoads.

6. Nightmare – Avenged Sevenfold
So, this song was only released in August of 2010, so it hasn’t had the chance of stand the test of time.  But it is a great one.  It starts off with some bells, then a strong drum intro with the band, and it’s off and running.  This song drives, drives, drives.

5. Them Bones – Alice In Chains
It’s no secret that this band is a huge influence of ours.  This song is the perfect example of AIC greatness.  Everything you need and none of what you don’t.

4. Rusty Cage – Soundgarden
Another big Diablo Royale influence, these guys have it all.  Good technique, great songwriting and arguably one of the best singers in the business.  Most people will gravitate to the more radio friendly songs, but this one does it for us every time.

3. One – Metallica
This song is epic.  It influenced a generation of drummers to play double bass (Diablo’s own Mike Sankari is no exception).  Aside from that, the lyrics are great, the arrangement gets you hooked from the first note and these guys kill it in the outro.

2. Cowboys From Hell – Pantera
Here’s a band that did it 100% their way from 1990-2000 and this song encompasses that spirit through and through.  They throw down and kick some ass.  Hell, they haven’t put out an album since 2000 and you still see people wearing their shirts.  If you’re feeling a little down, put on this song and take comfort in the fact that for the next four minutes and six seconds, everything is going to be just fine.

1. Welcome To The Jungle – Guns N’ Roses
This is the story of Axl Rose getting to LA from the midwest and man, does this song ever catch that spirit.  The guitar sounds are raw and in your face, there’s a spooky breakdown and the choruses at the end will get you out of your seat.  If they don’t, go see a doctor, you’re probably paralyzed.

The 4 National Tours You Can’t Miss & Diablo Royale at CMJ?

In This Issue:

1. Diablo Royale Update – CMJ Date
2. The 5 National Tours You Can’t Miss

1. A Hard Rock Band At CMJ?
Yes, that’s what we were thinking as well.  This event is dominated by hipsters and even more people that want to be hipsters but can’t  seem to figure it out.  It’s pretty simple actually, get a pair of horn rimmed glasses and stop using deodorant, but they don’t really ask us for our opinion.

Anyway, we have been invited to play one of the largest music festivals in the country and the date will be Thurs, 10/21 at 11PM.  We will post the venue (it’s in Manhattan) on our facebook page the day of the show.  So if you’re not following us on there, get to it.

2. The 4 National Tours You Can’t Miss
Not only are we musicians, but we’re huge music fans as well.  We love live shows as much as the next guy, maybe even more.  To that end, here are our picks for the shows you CAN NOT miss for the remainder of 2010:

1. PUi/King Hell/Ghosts Of Eden/Charetta – The first show on our list breaks our rule.  It’s actually a local show in New York City, but this is our post, so we can do what we want.  These are all bands we’ve played with and know well.  The show will be on Sun 10/17 at Mercury Lounge in New York City.  We’ll be there hanging out, you should be also.

2. American Carnage Megadeth/Anthrax/Slayer – This tour has been going on for a little while and the NY show was last week.  Megadeth played their classic album Rust In Peace in its entirety.  Again, RUST IN PEACE IN ITS ENTIRETY.  Need we say more?

3. Black Label Society – Ozzy Osbourne alum Zakk Wylde will kill it with his own band.  The reviews so far of the tour have been very good.  They’ll be in NYC next week, so we obviously haven’t seen them yet.  Children of Bodom and Clutch are also on the bill.

4. Ozzy Osbourne – Speaking of the almighty metal lord, Ozzy is hitting the road in the coming months and he’s bringing Rob Halford with him.  Ozzy has been all over the world the past few weeks.  He was in Tel Aviv, Israel in late Sept, and is in Japan tonight.  At an age when most people retire to Florida, and after single-handedly consuming enough drugs to kill 3 people and a large dog, the old man is still at it.  Ozzy, we salute you.

Alright, that’s it for now.  Don’t forget to "Like"  us on facebook so you can get the details of our CMJ show next Thurs!

Gramercy Was Awesome & Heading To Philly This Thurs

Hey,

Our show at Gramercy last week was great.  There were over 500 people in attendance and it was for a great cause.  We could go on and on, but you can watch some of the video from the night on our new website and you’ll get the idea.  To those that came, thank you for making it a night we won’t soon forget!  This is also the first time in a while that we’ve played a new song.  It’s called "Dead Inside."

This past weekend was spent in Pennsylvania writing more songs for our next release.  As soon as those they’re ready we’ll be playing them at shows.

Speaking of live shows, we’re back in Philly this Thurs night.  We’ve been playing there monthly since the summer and things are going in the right direction.  We’ve been invited to open for a national act there in November!  More details on that to come later.  For now, here is what is happening this week:

Thurs, 9/23 10:00 PM
Sweeny’s
13639 Philmont Ave
Philadelphia, PA 19116

That’s all for now, we’ll write again in 2 weeks.  Don’t forget to check out the videos from Gramercy.

The weekend after though, is a totally different story. We are playing Gotham Rocks at Gramercy Theater on Sat, 9/11. Our friends The August Infinity are headlining the night. Highline Wrap-Up & Philly/South Jersey Mini-Tour This Weekend

Hey,

We had our big NYC show last week at Highline Ballroom and in a word, it was AWESOME! There were over 600 tickets sold, we shared the stage with some amazing bands making it all in all one of the best shows we’ve ever played. We could go on about it, but we’ll let Aaron from The Bellingham Herald tell you: “Diablo Royale, a gritty heavy metal act with real musicianship, played loud but didn’t rely on volume. Without any gimmicks, they stole the night by channeling Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine with a classic ’90s sound made modern that would play well to larger arenas.”

Moving on to shows coming up, we’re heading back to Philly and South Jersey this week. On Thurs we’ll be at Sweeny’s with fellow Gotham Rocks bands, Bound By Nothing and Close2death. On Fri we’ll be a the Cherrywood. Here are the full details:

10:30 PM Fri, 8/13

The weekend after we’ll be in Shohola, PA at a remote lakehouse writing some more material for our 3rd album. And we’ll finish out August with a bang in Williamsport, PA at the Absorb Music Festival. And then we’re back in NYC at Gramercy Theater for a Gotham Rocks benefit on Sept 11. The full show schedule and details are on the website here: http://www.diabloroyale.net/shows.shtml.

Alright, that’s it.

You can figure out what that means. At 1 we are going to be playing another set this time with friends and fans singing with us so it’s looking like a very fun time. Come down, have a drink and let’s play some music.

And of course, we will be joined by an all star cast of bands cause that’s how we do things: FEFF, Ghosts Of Eden, Border Cops, Stitch Rivet (all the way from Kentucky), The Party Death and April’s End.

And who knows, you might even catch a glimpse of our new bassist. More on that next time.

Win Free Tix To The Greedy Dogs CD Release On Jan 25

This is it! We are throwing our CD Release Party for our EP, “Greedy Dogs” at The Gramercy Theater. Be part of Diablo Royale history as we take this awesome national venue by storm. If you want, get tix in advance from us to avoid livenation surcharges. The tix will be waiting for you at the door on the day of the show. We will be joined by some amazing talent and Gotham Rocks veterans, Charetta, King Hell, The August Infinity, 13th Floor and Panzie. Show starts at 6:30, Diablo Royale is on at 9.

This is a big event for us since we worked long and hard on the CD and had our fans involved in almost every part of it. It would mean a lot to see you at the show.

We are having a facebook contest for free tix. Here’s how it works. First, become a fan of Gotham Rocks on facebook. This is important, we won’t be able to know you entered the contest if you don’t do this. Then, enter this message as your status: “Check out the @Gotham Rocks showcase on Mon 1/25 at The Gramercy Theater for the best up and coming rock bands in NYC. www.gothamrocks.net/shows”

When you type in @Gotham Rocks it should turn blue and your post will appear on the Gotham Rocks wall. That’s how we’ll know who entered. We’ll notify winners the day before the show.

On an unrelated note, we were on RXP 101.9 FM on New years Day as part of the “Top 9 of ’09″ countdown. We beat out Muse and Elvis Costello for a spot on that list!

Alright, that’s it for now, see you in a few weeks.

Happy Holidays From Diablo Royale

Hey,

Happy Holidays to you and yours. This has been quite a year for us and we want to take a minute to thank you for being a part of it. We were featured in Revolver Magazine, spun on Sirius radio, received an endorsement from Spector, did some touring over the summer, played at Six Flags, taped for Fearless TV on Fox and recorded an album, “Greedy Dogs,” that was fully funded by you. So again, THANK YOU!

We’re not quite done with 2009 just yet , we will be on WRXP 101.9 FM in New York next week on Steve Craig’s “Top 9 Concerts of 09.”

And with that, we’re on to next year. There’s a bunch of stuff in the works, but we’ll keep it simple for now. We are having our release party for “Greedy Dogs” on Mon, 1/25 at The Gramercy Theater. This is a national venue that few local bands get to play and we are very excited to be doing it for the second time. Tickets are $10 in advance, $13 at the door. If you’d like, buy your tix directly from Gotham Rocks and avoid the livenation surcharges. The tix will be waiting for you at the door the day of the show.

Alright, that’s it until next year.

-Adrian, Eric, Gman & Mike

Closing Out The Year At Gotham Rocks

Gotham Rocks at Crash Mansion is always a good time and this was no exception. We shared the stage with our good friends from Eve To Adam, and the new Zodiac line-up which is as strong as ever. Our good buddy Rob Pheffer from the band FEFF came on stage for a little G ‘n’ R and howled his way through “Nightrain” with us. Thanks again for all those that came out, we’ll see you at Blender on the 25th!

Hard Rock & Hard Rain At Six Flags On Halloween

Despite the rainy forecast, Diablo Royale, along with fellow rockers 13th Floor and Zodiac, trucked down to Jackson, NJ for the annual Fright Fest show. With dark clouds looming on the horizon, the show was close to being canceled, but the gods smiled apon us and held the rain off just long enough for DR to take the stage and rock out. Once we were done however, the good luck ran out, the skies opened up, and the rain poured down. Subsequently, the show was stopped and the night came to an abrupt end. Many thanks to Eric Applegate for filling in on drums, and many many thanks to the guys from Zodiac and 13th Floor for providing the backline (that they never go to use). I guess it helps to have friends in high (or is that low?) places.
